HELLO SUMMER! We know many of you are looking for sports and recreational activities to keep your children engaged during the summer months. Regional Center of Orange County has an informative Recreation Resource Guide, which you can find on their website at rcocdd.com/community-support/ (available in Spanish, Vietnamese, and Korean too.)
We also have a “Recreation and Resource” binder in the lobby here at SCPPT. Feel free to check it out and see if any activities interest you.
We just had to share this awesome email we got yesterday from a former SCPPT family!

Come on baby, let’s do the twist! Incorporating trunk rotation into a child’s core strength program works to improve their strength in different planes of motion as well as improve mobility within their spine, ribcage and hips. These movements can help improve their posture, mobility and respiration.

To cap off National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, we would like to highlight one of our SLPAs, Pia Adams, for our next staff spotlight. Pia has been a therapist for 10 months (1 year on July 6th!!!). She went to school at Santa Ana College where she got her Associates in the Speech Language Pathology Assistant program and she is currently working on her Bachelor's in Communicative Disorders at Cal State Los Angeles. The thing she enjoys most about being a therapist is that she gets to build rapport with families and kiddos and everyday feels like she learns something new. In her free time, she loves to read thriller and horror books! #speechmonth #workfamily
Help us celebrate National Speech-Language-Hearing Month! Share a new word, sign, or skill your kiddo has learned, or a special moment your child has had in speech therapy!
To our wonderful Speech team: thank you for your patience, passion, and dedication to helping every voice be heard 💙.
In honor of National Speech and Hearing Month, here are some featured signs of the month to try out with your kiddos: “happy” and “angry.” To sign “happy,” brush your hand up on your chest repeatedly as if your happiness was bubbling over. To sign "angry," move your “claw like” hand from your angry face to your chest. You can model these signs for your child or use hand over hand assistance to guide their hands.
Sign language is a visual language that uses hands, movements, and facial expressions to communicate words. Sign language helps to facilitate and encourage language development by providing children earlier access to language. There are several advantages to early introduction of sign language in children including: improved social skills, increased confidence, and improved self esteem. For a preverbal child or a child with a speech delay, communicating through signs provides a means to express themselves which in turn helps them to avoid frustration and tantrums.
