PEDIATRIC Occupational Therapy

If your child is struggling with daily tasks like feeding, dressing, handwriting, or staying regulated, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

At South Coast Pediatric Physical Therapy, our occupational therapy team works closely with families to understand your child’s unique needs and create a plan that helps them gain independence, confidence, and comfort in their daily routines.

What Is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) helps children develop the skills they need to participate in everyday activities, what we call their “occupations.”

For children, that includes things like:

  • Feeding themselves

  • Playing with toys

  • Getting dressed

  • Participating in everyday tasks

  • Managing emotions and sensory input

Our goal is to help your child not just improve skills—but feel more confident and capable in their daily life.

Signs Your Child May Benefit from Occupational Therapy

You may notice your child:

  • Has difficulty with fine motor skills (grasping, cutting, handwriting)

  • Struggles with feeding, picky eating, or transitioning to new textures

  • Gets overwhelmed easily by sounds, textures, or environments

  • Has trouble with dressing, brushing teeth, or other self-care tasks

  • Avoids certain activities or seems frustrated during play

  • Has difficulty with attention, regulation, or transitions

  • Seems behind peers in independence with daily activities

If you’re unsure, we’re happy to talk through what you’re seeing.

How We Help

We take a whole-child, individualized approach to therapy.

Your child’s plan may include:

  • Fine motor skill development (grasp, coordination, hand strength)

  • Sensory processing support and regulation strategies

  • Feeding therapy (including picky eating and oral motor skills)

  • Self-care skills (dressing, hygiene, independence)

  • Visual motor support

  • Play skills and social participation

We also work closely with you as the parent so you feel confident supporting your child outside of therapy sessions.

What Makes Our Approach Different

Families choose our clinic because we focus on both clinical excellence and real-life impact.

  • Specialized pediatric equipment and therapy spaces

  • Collaborative care across OT, PT, speech, and feeding

  • Strong focus on parent education and home carryover

  • Therapists who challenge and support your child at the right pace

  • A welcoming, child-centered environment

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy; your child’s plan is tailored to them.
